About Kupendwa

Kupendwa’s motto

“Saving Lives…Two At A Time”

is two-fold:

Our goal is to save lives

two at a time,

both mother and baby, physically and spiritually.

 Our

Maternity Homes

Kupendwa’s Maternity Homes are Christian residential homes for young unwed expectant mothers typically 12 – 18 years old. The girls who enter our Homes are the most desperate of the desperate teenage mothers with crisis pregnancies.

These teenage mothers have been living in trees or on the streets, selling their bodies for a piece of bread, have attempted suicide, contracted HIV through rape, or have been through many other life tragedies that have led them to absolute desperation.

Kupendwa is dedicated to reducing the maternal and infant mortality rates in Uganda by making improvements in maternal and child health.

Through our Midwifery Training Clinics & Workshops, we train, educate and empower both men & women within the local communities and surrounding villages in order to reduce mortality statistics.

The Stats

  • 16 women die every day in Uganda due to pregnancy related complications.

  • Complications during pregnancy and childbirth are the second cause of death for 15-19 year-old girls globally.

  • Several factors that prevent women from receiving or seeking medical care during pregnancy and childbirth are poverty, distance, lack of information, inadequate services, and cultural practices.

  • More than 800,000 child deaths are linked to poor breastfeeding practices every year according to UNICEF.

... and the statistics continue.
